The online gaming world is changing, but that is nothing new. The gaming industry has always been keen to keep up with technology changes and customer demand – so what changes can we expect to see in 2022?

2 Games consoles playing football, online gaming

In the past owning a console has been an expensive concept and then on top of that owning the discs for each game you wanted to play really increased the cost of things. This has changed slightly over the years with the opportunity to play digital versions of the games rather than needing to fork out for the actual disc. On top of that, things like X Box Live allow people to play games by paying a monthly (or annual) membership rather than paying for each game separately.

It will come as no surprise that the gaming industry and gamers, in general, have a keen interest in technology. People are keen to see games moving forward with new additions and new technology making gameplay even more exciting. The addition of things like loot boxes to games has helped with this. However, one thing we’re likely to see change in the near future is the ownership of games consoles.

Game Streaming Services

Rumours are that Microsoft are currently in the testing stages of a games streaming stick – think of it like an Amazon Fire Stick for gaming. This will allow people to access games on their TV without the need to purchase an expensive games console on top of this – it will be like the next generation of smart TVs. Although there have been no real announcements about what this will look like or what to expect, the fact that it is in the testing stages with brands such as Samsung means that we could see the first release happen in as little as 12 months – a really exciting development for the gaming community.
