I’ve recently installed post supports to secure my garden fence. It wasn’t until I spoke to Speedy Fixings about post shoes (another name for post supports!), I did not know that these were a thing before I spoke to the team at Speedy Fixings.
What is a post support?

Speedy Fixings also manufacture custom made post shoes which can be made to the exact size you require.
These are also available in various materials and finishes to better suit specific requirements, from heavy-duty stainless steel post shoes to lightweight galvanised steel post shoes. Wood Create explains that “Heavy-duty post shoes are ideal for heavy-duty applications. These are suitable to offer support to larger outdoor structures such as gazebos and pergolas.” Whilst lightweight post shoes are better suited for lightweight applications, such as helping put up wooden fences.
Why use post supports?
There are many advantages to using post supports. As Wannabe Princess comments, “post shoes offer extra stability, support and strength” to outdoor structures. “These are often used on wooden posts of garden fences to withstand the elements better, and thus, ensure fences have a longer lifespan.” She continues.
But the benefits don’t stop there. Post supports create a barrier between the wooden post and the ground, protecting it from water damage, fungal damage and insect damage. “By preventing water damage, insect damage and fungal damage, as well as offering extra stability and support, your outdoor structures will be able to better withstand the elements, and in turn, have a longer lifespan.” Says Isa Blog. And she couldn’t be more right!
