How to Raise a Team Player – In life your child will meet a range of different people, with different personalities and viewpoints. Despite not thinking the same, they will need to be able to collaborate and work alongside them. It may even help them to learn a thing or two. We can all learn from one another and team working is a valuable trait to have. To help your child in developing their teamworking skills, here’s some advice that we’ve collated from speaking to other fellow parents and school teachers.
Raise a Team Player – An Open Mind
We all have our own unique strengths and experiences that we can each learn from and there is more than one way of doing things. When working in a team it’s important for children to recognise this and acknowledge others’ ideas.

Raise a Team Player – Work On Communication Skills
Good communication is key for this. They will need to listen and respect others’ ideas and communicate their own with those that they are working with.
Raise a Team Player – Showing Others Respect
Respect is just as important when it comes to communicating. They will need to give others the chance to speak, be respectful of their feelings and ideas. This is something that you can actually help with by displaying a good example of how to speak to others and treat them with respect.

Raise a Team Player – Working Cohesively as Opposed to Individually
What children also need to be a team player is selflessness and a desire to help others as opposed to just thinking about themselves.

Raise a Team Player – Practise Their Problem Solving
Team building exercises come with a problem-solving element and practising this skill can help your child to be a good contributor to any team that they’re in. There are various ways in which you can do this – brainstorming activities, puzzles and riddles which get them to think innovatively and “outside of the box”.
