In being grateful you are showing to the world you understand the importance of kindness and respect. Children should also learn to express gratitude and it’s important to help them in learning to use this core value in all that they do. Here are some ways you can explore gratitude with your child.
Model respect in the home
Being respectful is similar to learning about respecting gratitude. Your child is learning about how to be kind towards others when they are learning from you. A lot of ideas and thoughts bounce around in the home, and your child also will want to follow everything that you do to make progress in their learning. Treat them how you would like to be treated back, you’d be surprised how much of an impact this will have on your child as they’re growing up.

Reward your child for behaving well
Behaving well means your child is aware of being kind, offering support and being grateful for what they have. It’s also a good habit to get into anyway as your child is more likely to feel positive and motivated to do their best.
Look into community involvement
A range of schools will offer chances for your child to look at volunteering or another form of community involvement. This helps your child get to grips with lots of different skills at once, especially kindness, gratitude and independence. There is also a cross-curricular approach found in certain schools, where your child gets to apply core skills.
Ask your child what they are thankful for
Being thankful for certain things will make your child appreciate what they already own. A child can easily get pulled into a lot of popular trends at school and things their friends are picking up. Remind your child to be thankful for what they already own, they probably have plenty of unique things to cherish in their life.
