The summer holidays are a great time to spend time with your children without the worry of school days and homework getting in the way. Most of us can look back on our school holidays with fond memories and the chances are you want your children to be able to do the same.
With the hot weather here this week it can be hard to know what to get up to with your kids because afternoons in the park are going to be too hot – children can become whingy when they’re warm too, so you’ll want to be prepared.
Water
Water is your friend, so if you have any outdoor space then get a paddling pool or splash mat or similar so you can all have some fun in the water. Water pistols and water tables for younger children can be great fun too – just do what you can to keep all of that in the shade.

Snacks
Kids always want snacks and the warm weather is going to be no exception. The hot weather means that keeping their fluid intake up is a must – so combining the two works perfectly. Ice lollies, ice pops and even just flavoured ice cubes can help to keep children both entertained and hydrated. You can even buy moulds and make your own ice lollies at home – frozen yoghurt works really well too!
Naps
The heat can be overwhelming for everyone, so encourage your kids to have some down time – an afternoon on the sofa with the curtains closed and a good film on the TV is a great way to get them to rest and for you all to be able to avoid the hottest part of the day – win, win!
Days Out
Days out are always a good idea in the holidays – think of places you can go that are likely to be inside – the cinema is a great place for going if you want to take advantage of their air conditioning for example.
If you have any ideas for keeping kids entertained during a heatwave we’d love to hear them
