With the cost of everything rising for lots of us the weekly grocery shop is an area where we’re keen to save a few pennies. However, we can hardly stop eating and the chances of the kids serving without snacks is pretty slim, so instead here are some money-saving food apps that might help!
Too Good To Go
Too Good to Go is an app that is designed to reduce food waste, but it can be a money saver for consumers too. Various restaurants, bakeries and shops list their end-of-day items at a discounted rate – however, you don’t get to pick and choose what you have. Instead, you can see the cost of the bag and the value of items you are likely to get – IE £3 bag for £9 of stuff. The stuff you get will generally be dated that day – but if you’re not worried about dates you have less to worry about. We generally have lots of things for lunch the next day, bread and fruit/veg which always lasts a few days and the rest goes in the freezer for another day – winning!
Olio
Olio works with supermarkets, which give away goods at the end of the day. Generally, one or two local people will volunteer to collect the goods and then put out on the app what is available for local people to come and collect. Of course, what you get varies each day but with supermarkets things like fruit, veg and bread is always likely so great for lunch boxes & stocking up the freezer.
Shopimum
This is a cash-back app where different offers are listed all the time. You’ll find that some items are listed at 50% off whereas others are free. You need to purchase the item listed and then send them a copy of your receipt, they’ll then pay the agreed amount directly to your bank or PayPal.
If you have any ideas for money-saving food apps we haven’t mentioned we’d love you to share them below.
